🎵 | Music was often written, sung, and heard in political detention and torture centers in Chile during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).
For many political prisoners, writing, playing, and listening to music were ways to register, process, remember, forget, and transcend difficult experiences. Music was a tool to preserve dignity and hope, to have fun, and to communicate with other inmates and with the outside world.
Gaining worldwide recognition in 2011, the most recent wave of the Chilean student movement has not abated. It was revived in 2015 due to ongoing police brutality, as exemplified by the case of Rodrigo Avilés, who was severally injured on a march.
This setlist consists of chronologically-ordered songs from 1963 to 2013 that illustrate the struggles of the common people from the Republic of Chile.
